Wicca Symbol

The Wiccan religion may be a recent institution, but it has deep roots in the pagan past. Many adherents to this religion are seeking an alternative to the standard Christian religion. Wicca is a religion heavily based around rituals; spells and chants make up most of the practices within Wicca. A Wicca symbol is used in most of these rituals. There are many different symbols used in the Wicca religion, though the pentacle is one of the most prominent.

A pentacle is simply a five pointed star centered within a circle. It is important to note that a pentacle is a right side up star, while a pentagram uses an upside down star. A pentacle is supposed to provide protection from evil and has been used in many other religions. In fact, you can still find pentacles painted in white on barns in Quaker areas to ensure better protection for their animals and crops. The pentacle might be the most dominant form of Wicca symbol, but there are others used as well.

The Witch's Symbol (reminiscent of a spoked wheel) is another dominant symbol, sometimes used to mark ritual tools. The symbol for the horned god is another common Wicca symbol, as well. There are several different variations on this, though the simplest form is a circle, drawn with a crescent resting atop it, points facing upwards. Each Wicca symbol used has a different meaning and denotes different strengths. You can find a Wicca symbol used for fertility, for love and for protection. You will rarely find a symbol used for evil or for revenge, though.

The Wicca religion believes that whatever you do, it will come back to you threefold. In other words, if you do bad things with the powers, worse things will happen to you. This is based in the notion of natural balance that pervades the religion.
